Blue Label Whiskey History

Probably the most famous whiskey name in the world, Johnnie Walker exists since 1860. The brand was established in 1860 by John “Johnnie” Walker, when he started blending Whiskies from his grocery shop in Ayrshire, Scotland. During the Victorian Era, success came when his son Alexander exported around the British Empire, establishing the Whisky early as one of the first truly global brands. The most famous whiskey in the world sells more than 130 million bottles per year in nearly every country on the planet across their wide range of ages, special editions, and finishes.

How does Blue Label taste?

Blue Label is a light spirit and in comparison to some of the other whiskies I tried it almost tastes meek. At a very high price point it almost pales to Green Label which is 3 times cheaper. On the nose you notice vanilla. Palate gives you honey, orange blossom and ginger. Finish gives you a soft long smoke finish. Blue Label is one of those spirits you save for a special occasion. I bought my first bottle once I got a new job, it was a great way to celebrate new job and the financial ascendency of my bank account .I remember paying $150 for the bottle which was a great deal when you see how much it goes for these days. Is this bottle worth buying? From a collecting stand point yes, because it’s a known name and one of the most prestigious bottles in the lower echelons on whiskey consumers. You can often times see a guy who has money but no style drinking it. It is like owning a Rolex watch, everyone knows it’s expensive and it’s a status symbol but it’s not on the level of some of the other prestigious watches. If you can afford it buy a bottle you might just like it.
